BlocBoy JB is a rapper from Memphis, Tennessee, who broke out in 2018 with "Look Alive", a hard-hitting single featuring Drake and produced by fellow Memphis native Tay Keith, whose rattling beats would soon be everywhere in rap. The Drake co-sign sent the song into the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 and turned BlocBoy, briefly, into one of the most talked-about names in the genre.
His energetic "Shoot" dance had already gone viral, and "Look Alive" capitalised on that momentum. But while he kept releasing music to a real fanbase, nothing he put out afterward approached the same scale.
On streaming, the gap is wide. "Look Alive" sits past a billion plays, while his next most-streamed track, "Rover 2.0" with 21 Savage, trails at under 90 million. That puts the ratio above 12, well past our 5.0 line.
By our measure BlocBoy JB is a certified one-hit wonder, with the usual caveat for an active artist: a single big record could change that quickly. For now, a guest verse from one of the biggest stars in music remains the moment the wider audience keeps returning to.
