Colby O'Donis is an American singer who reached the charts at the height of the late-2000s dance-pop boom. "What You Got", released in 2008 with Akon, is a glossy, club-ready R&B-pop track, and it became a top-twenty hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, his biggest moment as a lead artist.
Around the same time he featured on one of the era's defining smashes, providing vocals on Lady Gaga's "Just Dance", but under his own name he was unable to follow "What You Got" with anything comparable.
On streaming, "What You Got" sits near 87 million plays, while his next most-streamed track trails at around four million. That sends the ratio above 20, far past our 5.0 line.
By our measure Colby O'Donis is a certified one-hit wonder, with the caveat that his voice also features on a far bigger song by someone else. As a lead artist, though, the numbers are clear: one polished, of-the-moment dance-pop single became his calling card, standing far ahead of everything else he released under his own name. There is an irony in it: far more people have heard his voice on that giant Lady Gaga hit than on the song that actually tops his own catalogue.
