Mr. President were a German Eurodance group who scored one sunny, inescapable hit in the mid-1990s. "Coco Jamboo", released in 1996, was a bright, reggae-tinged dance-pop track with a singalong chorus, and it became an international hit and a permanent fixture of 90s party compilations.
The group had further success in Germany and parts of Europe, but to the wider world they are entirely defined by that one breezy anthem, which has endured as a nostalgic Eurodance staple.
On streaming, "Coco Jamboo" sits near 430 million plays, while their next most-streamed track, "I Give You My Heart", trails at around 28 million. That sends the ratio above 15, far past our 5.0 line.
By our measure Mr. President are a certified one-hit wonder, in the classic Eurodance mould. Theirs is a familiar pattern for the genre: a single, irresistibly cheerful dance-pop song so enormous in its moment that it overshadowed everything else the group made and became, for most listeners, the whole of what they remember.
